Labuschagne Left Out from Australia's One-Day International Squad Against Team India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from Australia's three-game ODI series facing India, with high-performing Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw getting a surprise call-up.

Performance Issues Lead to Exclusion

The right-hander was left out from the ODI squad following scoring just one run in his two batting efforts during the top-end series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a highest score of 47 in his last 10 ODI innings.

The 31-year-old has featured in 68 one-day internationals and accumulated 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now continue to press his claims a Test recall ahead of the Ashes starting in Perth on November 21.

Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Changes

There have been indications of a resurgence with a score of 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw also hit a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

Renshaw is in line to make his ODI debut in the forthcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

He has played 14 Tests with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also aiming for a Test return as Australia seek a answer to their batting top-order problems.

Pace Returns and Injury Updates

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after taking a break since performing well for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after being concussed in the lead up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he hopes to heal from a spinal issue in time to captain Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Team Announcement Approach and Fixtures

Australia have named a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-match series due to a wrist problem sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 sides after hitting a ton in the final game against New Zealand to clinch a two-nil victory last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the later stages of the series as players get ready for the cricket season through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the build towards the T20 World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare specific players for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India starts on 19 October in Perth, before the opponents play five T20 internationals from 29 October.
